| University
of Greenwich: Avery Hill campus |
Avery
Hill campus is set in 86 acres of parkland, with good road and
rail links to London and Kent. There are
plenty of car parking spaces on both the Mansion and Southwood
sites.
The Mansion site was previously the home of the
19th century tycoon, Colonel North, and still retains some of
North's grander improvements -including the listed former
Great Hall, now the campus library. North's Winter
Garden, with its beautiful Victorian glass dome, is also a listed
building
Mansion site is the main academic site for the campus, with
four lecture theatres - seating between 90 and 200 - and 16 classrooms
that can hold up to 50 people. There is a television studio on
site and the Arts Centre has now become a large, modern computer
suite. A full range of audio visual equipment is available. Catering
is provided in the newly-refurbished Coffee Shop, where counter
service meals and buffets for up to 120 can be provided.
The
Southwood Site, further down the Park, is now home to 1300-room
Student Village. The village also houses a shop run by the Students'
Union, a coin-operated launderette, and a large self-service
dining room. The site also includes a small lecture theatre and
15 classrooms in varying sizes. Southwood site is monitored by
CCTV and has a gatehouse manned 24 hours a day.
